The day we left Florence inflicted on us a 14-hour train journey from Florence to Palermo. The ride was long, but definitely worth it. The balcony of our apartment had an amazing view of both Mondello Bay and the mountains behind it. We arrived at the apartment at around 7pm and didn’t have any food there, so decided to walk to Mondello to get dinner. As it was late and we couldn’t call for a taxi, we decided to walk it. The walk itself was only about half an hour, so it wasn’t all that bad.
On our first full day in Palermo we took the bus into the city, which got steadily more crowded until there wasn’t even space to move. We got off at the first stop within walking distance of the sights we wanted to see as the lack of space wasn’t comfortable at all. The city made up for the bus ride and then some. It was stunning. We walked around, saw the sights, went in the cathedral, and walked around for hours before getting on an equally crowded bus back to the apartment. While we were on the bus, an argument broke out between a middle aged woman and a larger guy about our age which culminated in her throwing her umbrella at him, javelin-style. As this was a crowded bus, however, this proved to be a bad idea as it was aimed poorly and needed up hitting someone else. That someone else was Henry. Dinner was nice though, we made pasta with spicy sauce.
Much like Venice, we spent the rest of our time in Palermo exploring the city and what it had to offer, before heading to Rome.
