In Florence, we met up with Henry’s friend from high school, Megan, with whom we spent every day in the city. On the first day, we walked around the city for a while, mainly to get our bearings. After that, we stopped for a bit of lunch and then headed to the Uffizi Gallery, where we looked at some really famous and pretty paintings and sculptures. After the gallery, we met up with some friends Megan had made in her hostel for dinner.
The next day we met Megan at the leather market and looked around that for a while before heading to the Pitti Palace, which housed more art from various time periods.
Our third day in Florence was by far the hottest one we had experienced since Lisbon. In light (and heat) of this fact, we decided that day would be the perfect one to trek up a hill that overlooked the city. After an hour of walking, we realized that we had been walking up the wrong hill, and that the map had taken us on the shortest route by distance, but not altitude. So we made it to the top of the correct hill a little worse for wear and in need of some water. The view was worth it though, as you can see from the pictures.
On our final day in Florence, we took an hour’s train to Pisa. Once there, we walked from the train station to the area where the tower is. After walking around there for a while, looking in the cathedral but not being willing to pay the 30 euros to go up the tower, we began to start looking for somewhere to eat dinner. Our search ended when we found a curry house with 4.5 stars on Yelp and only one $ next to it.
