Munich

We landed at Munich Airport on Thursday the 19th, and began heading to our AirBnB in Freising, a small town north of Munich. Upon arrival, we found that the town we were staying in consisted of a few houses, a brewery, one restaurant and a bus stop. Realizing this would make it hard to find something to eat that night, we looked into getting an Uber into the main town. Uber, we discovered, was on its way to being outlawed in Germany. As it was gone 9pm and the buses had stopped, running, we ordered Indian and had that.

The next day we managed to get an Uber into town (the only one running within 20 miles) and began exploring. Freising did not have much going on, it’s a small town. We had a walk down the high street and looked in the shops before heading up the hill again to the Lidl, where we got food for dinner and breakfast the next day. As there were no Ubers left, we got the bus back to the house.

OKTOBERFEST – On Saturday morning, the couple who owned the house we were staying in Kindly offered to drive us to the train station, from which we got a train into Munich airport, and then a bus into Munich. We checked into the hotel and changed, before heading out to Oktoberfest. As we got closer to the venue, the crowd thickened and we just went with the large flow of people. When we got through the gate, we could finally see the festival. As it was both Saturday and opening day, it was packed. The clip from the Ferris wheel in the video should give some idea as to just how busy it was. We walked around for a little while, before heading into a beer tent for the essential stein of beer. It took roughly 45 minutes between entering the tent and having beer in our hands, but that’s all part of the experience. The tent was loud and, if one can imagine it, even more busy than the outside, making the music almost impossible to hear. After we finished our drinks, we headed out to ride the Ferris wheel. Upon finishing the ride, we walked around a little more and, having done almost everything there was to do at the festival, began walking back to the hotel.
